Our Principles

1. The Soul of Craftsmanship

Many products today are manufactured mechanically and in large quantities. Our rugs, by contrast, are individually hand-knotted in Nepal.

Each rug reflects the time, skill, and craftsmanship involved in its production. Variations in colour, texture, and pattern are natural characteristics of handmade production and make each piece distinctive.

2. Responsibility with Heart

Ganapatee Fairtrades is committed to working with traditional handmade craftsmanship in Nepal. We value the skills of the artisans who create our rugs and want to contribute to maintaining these craft traditions for the future.

The workshops we work with are located in Nepal, where traditional hand-knotting techniques are passed on through generations.

3. Step by Step Towards Better Working Conditions

We aim to support improvements in the working environment of the workshops we work with and to contribute to appropriate working conditions for the people involved in production.

We also want to encourage the continuation of traditional rug-making skills so that this craftsmanship can be maintained for future generations.

4. 5–10% Returned Directly to the Artisans

For every rug sold, we aim to contribute 5–10% of the sales price towards training, workshop improvements, and support for the people involved in the production of our rugs.

Depending on the project and the specific needs, this support may reach artisans directly or be provided indirectly through workshops, training, equipment, improvements to the working environment, or other production-related measures.

Our aim is to ensure that a portion of the value created through each rug contributes to the people and craftsmanship behind its production.

5. GoodWeave Certified – Fairness Guaranteed

Where applicable, our rugs are produced in GoodWeave-certified workshops.

GoodWeave certification provides standards and monitoring related to working conditions and the prevention of child, forced, and bonded labour within the certified production network.

For products covered by the certification, this gives our customers additional information about the production conditions behind the rug.

6. Gratitude

We would like to thank our customers for their interest in our handmade rugs and in the craftsmanship behind them. Every purchase helps us continue working with traditional handmade production and sharing these carefully crafted pieces with customers in Europe.
